Vaccination Rates in Germany Remain Critically Low

A Proven Approach to
Transforming Your Business

COVID-19

13% of adults aged 60+ received a COVID-19 vaccination during the 2024/25 season in Germany. Vaccination uptake among older adults has declined significantly despite continued risk of severe disease, hospitalization, long COVID, and workforce-related absence during seasonal waves.

Influenza

34% of adults aged 60+ received an influenza vaccination during the 2024/25 season. Influenza remains one of the most important drivers of seasonal workforce absence and preventable hospitalization among older adults.

Herpes Zoster

24% of adults aged 60+ were fully vaccinated against herpes zoster in Q1 2025. Despite the high burden of shingles and postherpetic neuralgia in older adults, vaccination uptake remains critically low.

Pneumococcal Disease

14% of adults aged 60–64 were vaccinated against pneumococcal disease. Vaccination coverage remains insufficient despite the risk of severe pneumonia, hospitalization, and invasive pneumococcal disease in older and high-risk populations.

RSV

< 1%* of adults received an RSV vaccination in Germany during the 2024/25 season. Adult RSV vaccination programs are still at an early stage in Germany. Despite the growing relevance of RSV for older adults and healthcare systems during winter seasons, uptake remains critically low.

HPV

55% of 15-year-old girls and 36% of 15-year-old boys were fully vaccinated against HPV in 2024. HPV vaccination remains one of the most important cancer prevention measures, yet vaccination coverage in Germany continues to remain below public health targets.
